Accelerated Reader Update

Attention Mountain Brook parents and students! Mountain Brook Schools have updated their Accelerated Reader (AR) system to include Renaissance Learning, which has thousands of AR quizzes available. The website can be searched by title, author, quiz number, ISBN, topic, interest level, book level, point value, and publication date. (Whew!) You may use the basic search function at the top of the Quiz Store page to search for a specific book or author, or you may do an advanced search to look for a book within a range of reading levels or point values. Please feel free to ask a librarian if you have any difficulty. To access Renaissance Learning at the library, visit the computer workstations on the first floor near the Children's Department, and select the new icon on the computer screen.

Über-Exciting Author News!

Over the holidays, the Children's Department received two mind-bogglingly amazing pieces of news! First of all, J.K. Rowling announced the title of what will be the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series, for which we all wait with bated breath: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now we are all speculating wildly about what this title could mean for the ultimate fate of our favorite bespectacled hero. PLEASE don't kill off Harry, Ron, or Hermione, we beg you, J.K.! And please don't make us wait until 2008 to read what is sure to be a masterpiece.

In news a little closer to home but just as cool, award-winning author Rick Riordan took notice of our blog posting about the latest Dis-a-Book on his smash hit, The Lightning Thief. We received two official Camp Half-Blood t-shirts to use as giveaways at our January 2nd book discussion session. A thousand thank-yous and mega-mythological-props to Rick and Becky Riordan! All of the Percy Jackson fans here in Mountain Brook are eagerly awaiting The Titan's Curse in May.
